Why I’m standing to be your Councillor

“BCP Council feels remote and irrelevant to many people I meet, but the decisions made at the Town Hall affect us all in profound ways at key moments in our lives and in small ways every day.

I believe that better decisions will be made when the voices of local people are heard – whether they live here, come here to work, or run a local business.

I want to listen and I commit to putting full-time hours into representing you.”

A former local teacher

“My career in education, firstly as a teacher in secondary and further education and now as a school governor, has brought me into contact with young people, parents, and families of all types. So I’m deeply familiar with the pressures of everyday life and the special role local public services can and should play in supporting so many in our local community.

I’ve also gathered experience in coordinating, signposting, and advocating for members of the community as a home-visitor for Home-start Bournemouth and as a volunteer for a local COVID-19 community support group during the first year of the pandemic.”

My view on politics

“I’m an experienced campaigner and Labour Party activist who is familiar with public debate and managing casework. I firmly believe local politics should be about more than party loyalties: councillors have a duty to work together to find solutions that benefit everyone.”

I care

“I care passionately about our green spaces and would like to continue West Southbourne Labour Councillor Lisa Lewis’ work supporting local community groups such as #ProtectOurParks.

I care about addressing antisocial behaviour, shoplifting, and related problems.

I care about private water companies failing to prevent untreated sewage and wastewater being released into our rivers and seas after heavy rainfall.

Most of all, I care about the people and community here.  I have no business or other monetary interests.  If elected, I’ll be visible and accessible and work hard to ensure your priorities are heard at BCP Town Hall.”
