I live in Queen’s Park

“I’ve lived in Queen’s Park for the last 22 years. I grew up in and around Bournemouth and went to Bournemouth School for Girls before leaving to go to university and working in London.

I’ve always taken a great interest in the local area and was a founding member of Queen’s Park Improvement and Protection Society (QPIPS) in the early days of the Picnic in the Park events. I also helped to create the play area in Queen’s Park, sadly too late for my three boys to enjoy but it’s a real joy to see so many families making use of it when I take my dog Penny for her walk in the park.”

A career in public service

“The local environment and the public services that support all of us have always mattered to me. I spent nearly ten years as a Governor of The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals, was a parent governor at two local schools and a trustee of the Bourne Spring Trust. I continue to volunteer in the community in whichever way I can.

I’ve had a varied career ranging from a Radio 4 news and current affairs producer, to health structure and governance training and I’m now a support worker to an autistic adult. Two of my sons are autistic, as am I, and so I’m well-versed in the difficulties of getting SEN support in schools and through the Council.”

Time for change

“I don’t mind speaking up and I’d like to speak up for my area and every person in it.

Queen’s Park is always changing but it feels like it’s taken for granted by its Conservative Councillors. Car and drug crime remain a stubborn problem, our streets are not cleaned and now the Council itself risks bankruptcy because of this Conservative administration.

Integrity and honesty are two of the Nolan Principles of Public Life, all of which I pledge to serve by. The others are openness, selflessness, objectivity, accountability and leadership.

A great deal needs to change across BCP to revitalise our wonderful towns and reinvigorate our local economy. Our values underpin how we go about this change. Valuing every citizen, the environment and forging a sustainable future together are my values and I’d like to bring them to BCP Council in your service.”
