Living and working here for 35 years

“I’ve lived and worked in Bournemouth for 35 years, after moving from Ireland when I was 21.

As a councillor, I want to ensure that East Cliff & Springbourne residents are really heard, that decisions are made for the benefit of local people.

Social justice has been the founding principle of my career, and I want to take this forward as a local councillor, uplifting the local community.”

Working as a nurse within the NHS and social care

“My strongest memory of coming to live here was the wonder of the NHS and social care services. They were my inspiration for spending much of my career helping to care for people.

I’ve worked for over 20 years as an adult nurse and a mental health nurse within the NHS and social care. These roles gave me crucial insights into the challenges we face within health and social care, which I hope to contribute to the work of the local council, improving services for the local community.”

Educating at Bournemouth and Poole College

“I currently work as a lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College, teaching health and social care, along with being chairperson for our local University and College Union, or UCU.

This role has opened my eyes to the importance of effective support for students, along with ensuring that educational services provide the skills needed to bring prosperity to our local community.

This experience will support my ambition as a local councillor to make our local services work fairly and transparently for all, with a focus on those most in need.”
